SEO is the process of optimising your website pages for particular keyword phrases searched on within the online search engines. This is only referring to the “organic” or free listings returned by the search engines – NOT the sponsored PPC adverts. The aim of a search engine is to find the most relevant and useful information for the keyword phrase the searcher enters into the search box.
When a user enters a search or keyword phrase into the search box, the search engine reviews it’s recorded image of every relevant webpage and returns all related ones ranked in order of relevancy and usefulness.
The more “spam” or useless websites the search engine returns, the less likely the customer is to return and use the search engine. Therefore the search engines are always looking for better methods to make the list of websites returned more relevant and useful.
The search engines are constantly changing the criteria for their SEO ranking and many website owners have found themselves black listed or moving from No 1 spot in Google down to the 100th spot just because the SEO game changed!
It is therefore important to be sure that any SEO you implement for any keyword phrases is aimed at providing the most relevant and useful information for your customers. Trying to bypass the system may mean you end up with no internet business…..
70% of users only look at the first page the search engine returns. It is therefore a huge advantage for your business to be consistently ranked on that first page for your chosen keyword phrase. However, no one can guarantee to maintain a particular search engine ranking position as it will depend largely on how well optimised your competitor websites are and how often you review and update your optimisation to maintain your position.
Search engines all have robots or spiders which are on-line programs which visit all web sites, indexing their content and building up a summary of the content. This summary is stored in the search engine database and it is this that you search when using a search engine. |
